“Superhero comics are a dime a dozen now-a-days, and gay superhero comics seem be a fabulously growing trend among indy queer creators. Smith, thankfully, is no superhero hack; he is no pretender to the superhero throne, as he is actually able to tell a well-crafted, smart story.”

“Any comic that is quirky enough to put a suspiciously phallic-looking monster on the cover (and a square-jawed hero commanding his troops to “Strip for action, men!”) is a winner in my book. While the cover might be a lot for your mom (or not), nothing else in Tony Smith’s QUEERBAIT #1 is quite as risqué, resulting in a rewarding and fun read. Anyone, straight or gay, could enjoy all of the 12 great stories inside. Smith himself deserves a lot of recognition for not only wrangling such a high caliber of material from so many talented people, but for also successfully wearing so many hats (writer, letterer, artist, colorist) as you can see from below. His passion for this project is obvious in every aspect of the book, and it rubs off on you as you read.”

“…We’ll finish with Tony Smith again, this time also doing the art in a photo-realistic tale done on computer. Adam & Steve: Benediction is a quirky story, with the eponymous characters just out of the garden of Eden (which enables the author to draw his characters naked), discussing the dangers of the real world, wondering how two lovers like them will be received. It’s funny and feels a bit like something out of Neil Gaiman…”"

“…’Prejudice and Pride’ by Tony Smith and Brian Brinlee means to tackle a couple of ideas. The first is obviously discrimination, and possibly, my reading anyway, discrimination visited by one minority upon another. The second idea is that gay people can’t be heroic. The hero, Flaming Arrow, has come out to the world in a magazine interview. He arrives on the scene of a residential high-rise fire to rescue a trapped child. The irony of the situation is the mother shouts out ‘faggot’ and wails ‘He’s not gonna do anything funny to my boy, is he?’ as if molestation would be on anyone’s mind rushing into a raging fire. The writing and art does a good job of presenting the necessarily compressed story…”
