Does anyone know the fates of EC Comics artists?
Wally Wood died of suicide, beset by cancer. Somebody abandoned his wife and kids. Joe Orlando was art director at DC for a number of years. He and Harvey Kurtzman recently died but I need specifics as well as the fates of the rest from another EC fan-addict..
Jack Davis continued to work for Mad magazine for any years, and became hugely successful in the advertising and illustration field.
John Severin worked for Cracked Magazine for many years, and still draws comics to this day. He recently drew issues of Conan for Dark Horse and some western comics for Marvel.
Graham Ingels worked as an art teacher until he died in 1991. Ingels stayed away from comics after the EC witch trials.
Johnny Craig worked in advertising until his death a couple years ago. He did some drawing and inking for Marvel in the Silver Age, including a stint on Iron Man.
Al Feldstein served as the editor of Mad magazine through the 1980’s, then moved to Wyoming and continued his art career as a Western artist.
Will Elder continued collaborating with Harvey Kurtzman up until Kurtzman’s death. Elder just had a retrospective art book published by Fantagraphics books.
