How can I find out who this Silver War badge belonged to?

My Grandfather has a silver War badge which he was entitled to, but it hasn’t got his number engraved on it. I have ordered his records which list 2 numbers for him, and they do not match the one on the back.

national archives it should have details of the silver war badge but it rarely has any reference to how the person was injured. what numbers are on the back? i think if youve ordered the medal card from the archives, you might find a ref to the medal and the reason why he got it. the silver war badge was issued to all who were injured, you might find that the ref on hte back may be a military ref rather than a personal one for your grandfather.

theres no archive you can use to search the number, but on the medal card there might be a reference to the london gazette, and the issue number of the publishing that you might be able to cross reference. Do you know what regiment he was in? you could try and find out where his reg was at the time and see if theres any ref to him in the history books.
